Marilyn Giesbrecht spent many of her teen years in Gibsons and graduated from Elphinstone High School. She lived in residence at UBC to get her Education qualifications and then married back to Gibsons. Her entire Primary and Intermediate teaching career has been on the Sunshine Coast in Gibsons, Langdale, Roberts Creek and Cedar Grove Elementary schools over a span of 36 years.
She has always grown gardens and done lots of canning, freezing, pickling and jamming of produce grown on the 18 acre farm on Russell Road in Gibsons which she owns with her husband, Vern Giesbrecht, who was also a teacher in public schools and Capilano College before it became a university.
Marilyn operates a farm stand at the end of her driveway where she sells bouquets of home grown flowers and 9 varieties of jams. Her brother-in-law, Godfrey Robinson, has sold strawberries, raspberries, rhubarb, beans, corn and cucumbers and some other vegetables at the stand until this year when his health issues made it too difficult.
Marilyn and Vern have volunteered with the Jubilee Community Garden that their church, Calvary Baptist, has recently totally rebuilt and enlarged.
